The Child and Education Administration in Vimmerby municipality is responsible for all educational activities, from preschool to higher education, and also oversees Swedish for immigrants (SFI) and social orientation for newcomers. JOB DESCRIPTION

As a teaching assistant, you are a central figure in providing a student in preschool class with the special support needed for a safe and functioning school day. You contribute both to the student’s learning and to a positive environment in the group. The assignment involves assisting the student throughout the school day, that is, both in school and during after-school activities. You will support the student in various everyday situations during school days, in teaching moments, before, during, and after breaks, in the cafeteria within the after-school program, during transitions, and on excursions.

Additionally, you will work closely with our teachers and serve as a resource in the classroom while providing individual support to the specific student. You work to create a positive and safe atmosphere both in the classroom and on the schoolyard with the goal of achieving increased independence for the student and a reduced need for support from you as a teaching assistant. In collaboration with other staff at the school, you work to create the best conditions for students, guardians, and colleagues to thrive and feel secure in the school’s activities. The assignment may also include work in the school’s after-school program.

QUALIFICATIONS

We are looking for someone who:

• Is a trained teaching assistant or childcare worker with experience in similar work.
• Has previous experience working with children with autism.
• Has good knowledge of using visual support and communication cards as pedagogical tools.
• Has a good command of the Swedish language in both spoken and written form.

As a person, we see that you are secure, stable, and positive. You are calm and attentive in your interactions with others and have the ability to adapt both your approach and communication pedagogically based on the recipient's needs and the current situation. You behave in a manner that is appropriate to the situation and view relationships in their proper perspective, distinguishing between the personal and the professional. This contributes to creating good and trusting relationships with both students and guardians as well as colleagues.

The assignment also requires that you are someone who is comfortable structuring your work based on current needs. At the same time, we value good collaboration skills where you work to create an open and unpretentious collaborative climate where challenges can be solved effectively, and where everyone takes shared responsibility for daily work as well as for the development of the organization as a whole.
